Stumped

vs 13 ” Just as the terebinth and oak leave stumps when they are cut down, so the holy seed will be the stump in the land.”

God always leaves a remnant.  Since the beginning He has worked through the remnants - Noah, Abraham, Joseph, Josiah, Esther, Nehemiah, the twelve disciples, Luther, the Pilgrims, etc.

A remnant, a remainder, a stump - nothing has been able to completely remove the holy seed of God from the land.  Though cut down, still a stump remains.

This has been the intent of God.  He has kept a remnant because He is not done with the world yet.  The stump is a sign of God’s grace.

There will come a day when the stump will be removed.  When the remnant is taken and there remains no holy seed.  This will be a terrible day.  For with the stump goes the grace of God.  A place without the grace of God is a terrible place.
