Using God

Have you ever tried to use God?  “Surely if I interject God into this situation I will succeed in accomplishing what I want.”  “Surely if I give this offering I can count on God to help me with this problem.”  “Surely if I stay clean for the next month God will come through with what I need.”

God doesn’t work like that.  Check out 1 Samuel 4 to see how Israel in the Old Testament tried to use God to get what they wanted.  It is a dangerous thing to try to use God.

God does not do your bidding.  He is not a butler or errand boy.  God will run to the aid of one of His children who calls from a broken heart.  He will move mountains for one of His own in true need.  But He has no affection for the proud, for those who would presume to use Him (Proverbs 15:25).
