Prejudice, Am Not
Notice how when people want to refute that they are prejudiced against a person or type of people they will state that they live with the people of the type that they are accused of being prejudiced against. Someone points a finger and says “You are prejudice against black people.” A common reply to this accusation is “I have black friends!” or, where applicable, “I am not. I live in a black neighborhood.”
It seems that in our minds proximity to someone precludes a prejudice against them. We understand that this is, in fact, not always the case. However it does stand to reason that a person who is prejudice against someone or something, will tend to limit their exposure to the attention of their negative prejudice.
Now, think of this same concept in view of our relationship with God. So if we are not living with God, what the apostle John refers to as “abiding” (1 John 4:16), can we be considered prejudiced against Him. The literal meaning of the word prejudice is “a preconceived opinion that is not based on reason or actual experience.” If we are not in abiding love, daily communion with God are we predisposed to have an opinion of Him that is not based on reason or experience.
Of course! In fact, even while living daily with God and experiencing His love minute by minute, we conceive our own opinion about Him and allow that opinion to determine our view of God. It can be said with great certainty that God will not be like you think He is.
Our view of God must be based on His words, eternal words that are established forever. Look into the word and find out who God is.
