Don't Plan Against God

Planning against God. Never a more foolish thing is done.

This sentence is an excerpt from Proverbs 21. Proverbs is an Old Testament scripture that includes the wise sayings of King Solomon of Israel, along with other sage advice from various sources. The purpose of the book of Proverbs was to lead the king’s son, as well as others, into wisdom and truth for a prudent and productive life. Our selected excerpt is no exception to the book’s mission.

The wisdom to be found in this proverb is the understanding that there is no wisdom greater than the Lord. No knowledge or insight can overpower Him. There is no plan or scheme devised that will ever be successful against the Lord.

The prudent thing to do, then, is to not plan against God. Don’t scheme or plot against your Creator. He knows what you are up to at all times. He has your number, and He can call it at any time. To plan against God is the most foolish action anyone could ever take. Just don’t do it.

By the way, this proverb can be applied to planning injury or hostility against God. But it may also be applied to planning on using Him as well, even in a “loving” or “do good” way. For example, being charitable so that the Lord will bless you with material belongings. Don’t plan against God. Doing ritual prayer to get to heaven. God understands what you are doing. Be straight with Him, and God will be straight with you.

Whether your intent is malicious or upright, put your plans away. They will not work against the Lord Jesus Christ.
