Heart Reflection

The heart is reflected in the life lived.

Recently Charlie Sheen worked with Netflix on a raw and penetrating documentary. The two part series walks the viewer through the many ups and downs in the actor’s life. The film showed how Mr. Sheen’s propensity to turn successes into self destructive occasions put his loved ones through a lot of pain. It was also clear from the documentary that Charlie was blessed with people who sincerely cared for him, and others who probably did not.

While not everyone is a big screen actor or suffers from fame, all people are on display. Loved ones, colleagues, peers and even passersby have the opportunity to experience a person’s life. But, according to Proverbs 27 in the Old Testament Bible, what is seen in that life is a reflection. The proverb states that our lives reflect our hearts. Just as you can see your own face in a mirror, so can your heart be seen in the way you live your life.

So, how is your heart reflecting? What do your coworkers think of you? How about your spouse and children? Close friends? Does your heart's reflection include love, and can you see that love reflected back at you? Or is there bitterness and strife reflected in your life? It is hard to look in the mirror and not like what you see. But without an honest and thorough inspection, no correction can be made.

If you find your life, or even the lives of the people closest to you, reflecting something you do not like, consider where the reflection originates. A change in your own heart will change what's reflected.
