Turn Time
The Byrds were singing scripture. Specifically, they were signing Ecclesiastes chapter 3.
The book of Ecclesiastes was written by the wise King Solomon of Israel in his later years. According to Roy Zuck in the Dallas Theological Seminary’s Voice, the message of Ecclesiastes is “that the key to life is not in life itself. Pleasure, materialism, wisdom, and money are all futile and folly. True happiness comes from centering our lives on God, not ourselves.”
But I would like to focus on another message delivered in this book and in that melodious song performed by The Byrds: God has a time for everything.
God is timeless. He exists outside the framework of time and space. He is forever, and He is not bound by time, which means He has all the time in the world. God is also a God of order. Working within our world governed by time and space, He has directed things to have particular times. So, seasons work within cycles, taking specific amounts of time. The Earth orbits the sun at a certain speed and for a specific amount of time. There is a time for tides in the ocean and for the sun to rise and set.
Of great importance to you is that God has time for you. There is a set time for you to exist within time and space. Your time is in God’s hands and will be according to His order. For your existence here on Earth, He lacks nothing. The things that will occur in your life are according to God’s time. Your time may not be His time. But since God has time, you have time.
God is not missing time, running short of time, or late. As the wise king and the rock band said, there is a “time for every purpose under heaven.” You are God’s purpose, and there is time for you.
Are you old and wondering why you are still around? God has time for you. Are you young and feel that you possess nothing to add to the world? God has time for you. Are you toiling at a job and wondering if all this is nonsense? God has time for you. Turn! Turn! Turn!
