A Natural Declaration
All of creation naturally declares the glory of God.
On a recent hike, I came upon a tree with the word "GOD" carved into its bark. The bark of the tree was a gray color, and the carving was dated. The dark letters contrasted nicely with the lighter colored bark. My initial reaction to the carved word was approval. I wondered who had carved it and how long it had taken them to complete it. After admiring the carving, I continued walking down the path. That's when the Holy Spirit spoke.
"Redundant" was all that was said. I stopped and thought about this message and realized how unnecessary it is to carve God’s name on a tree. I am pretty sure that the artist was not trying to label the tree for its Creator. All a person needs to do is look at a tree to know that Someone fantastically creative and immensely intelligent designed such a thing. The tree is a declaration of its Creator's awesomeness! So are you.
In fact, all natural things proclaim our amazing God. King David of ancient Israel said it like this, "The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands." The Apostle Paul, when writing Romans, said it this way, "For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities - his eternal power and divine nature - have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse." All of creation makes us aware of the truth - God created me.
Writing His name on some part of it is a nice gesture, but it is totally unnecessary. God is evident in the universe's very existence. And, yes, He owns it all. There is no need to label it with His name. There is no one else who can claim it. It is His, and no one has or ever will take it from Him. Therefore, we who live in His creation have no excuse for denying His existence or thinking creation was not brought forth from Him. It is plain as the nose on your face. God is.
